Ready Your Wings and Wands: Free Fairy Walk in Downtown Mocksville on Saturday, June 22nd!

on June 14, 2024
Two individuals dressed as fairies share a warm embrace in a lush, outdoor setting with greenery and fallen leaves. The person on the right, with pink hair and a floral crown, smiles while the child on the left, in a pink dress and wings, hugs them tightly.

What could be more magical than an enchanted fairy walk? Dress up as a fairy, goblin, or wizard, and flutter to downtown Mocksville on Saturday, June 22nd, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., rain or shine, and join in the fun-filled and exciting adventure.

Meander Through Magic

Wander along the trail searching for fairy doors and find the goblin door, if you dare. Visit Mystical Meadow for fun and games, meander around the downtown shops for treats, find the Enchanted Garden with storytellers and fairy photo spots, and then fly to Pixie Plaza for a dance party with DJ Fish and food trucks. Eric & K’s BBQ, LLC, The Sunny Lemon, Justice Farmhouse Cupcakes, Kettlebear Kettlecorn, Astro Lemonade & Mini Donuts, and Jason’s Italian Ice will be serving up delectable eats and treats.

A small garden pond surrounded by rocks and various plants. A sign in the foreground, shaped like an arrow, reads "Walk the Plank Cliff." Decorative orbs are placed near the pond, and there is a small statue of an owl on the left side.

Enchanting Activities for All Ages

From a bounce house and slide to Mr. Marvel’s Magic Show, there’s something for everyone. Discover your fairy name at the courthouse, meet Koren Farm’s fairy llama, and get creative making potions, crowns, houses, wands and more. Most activities are free, with a few, like fairy hair, air-brushed tattoos, and face painting, requiring a small fee.

Fairy Walk Route

Fairy Walk activities will run along Main Street from Lydia Jayne’s beside Main Street Park to Hwy 64 and along Depot Street. Participants are invited to hop on the trail at any point and follow the Fairy Walk signs.

Free parking is available at Skyline National Bank, the Swicegood Group parking lot, and the Town Hall parking lot at 171 S. Clement Street.

A Growing Tradition

Last year’s event was a resounding success, with nearly 500 little girls joining in the fun. The Downtown Mocksville Collaborative (DMC) is thrilled to host this event for the third year, promising another unforgettable experience.

“The overwhelmingly positive response from last year’s event, mixed with the excitement from the community about this year, is sure to make for another magical, memorable Fairy Walk!” said Dottie Graham, president of the DMC. “The DMC is thrilled to be able to sponsor the Fairy Walk again this year. The outpouring of support and excitement from the community brings a lot of visitors to Downtown Mocksville, many of which have never been here before!”

Community and Merchant Excitement

Cognition Davie, Mocksville’s interactive children’s museum, has been a part of the Fairy Walk since the beginning. “We love participating every year and look forward to seeing the girls in their fairy costumes,” said Education Director Becca White, who hopes participants will stop by Cognition’s table in the park, aka Mystical Meadow. “We will be making fizzy fairy that the children will use science magic to turn into fairy gems.”

Merchants new to Mocksville are equally enthusiastic about participating in their first Fairy Walk.

“We want to participate in all the events possible because we are new to the Town of Mocksville and fell absolutely in love with the people, the town, and all the surrounding small businesses,” said Jeremy Childress, owner of Love for Retro, which buys/sells/trades games, systems, and collectibles and repairs them. “We will be giving out candy stickers, and our repair wizard will be there dressed up, passing out free stuff to the kids.”

William Puckett, owner of The Foxhole Trading Company, which buys and sells Pokemon and other trading cards, is excited to be involved in the Fairy Walk. He said he looks forward to meeting more of the community. “We enjoy giving back, especially to the kids. We’ll let the children catch their very own special Soot Spirit friend (inspired by the movie “Spirited Away.”) The story goes: The soot spirits fell into fairy dust, became multicolored, and no longer blended in with the soot. So, they need a new home and someone special to look after them. They will come with a little care card and food (candy) for the soot spirit.”

Three small, fuzzy pom-poms with googly eyes are lined up in a row on a colorful background. The pom-poms are light brown, bright green, and pink. They appear to be whimsical, playful characters.
