Census 2020 Final Call for Davie County

Did you know that your ten minutes will positively impact our community for the next 10 years?

This Wednesday, September 30, is the final day to complete the 2020 Census.

So far, 70.6% of Davie County residents have responded, but that means almost one third have not, leaving millions of dollars in much-needed funding at risk.

“It is so simple…your response to the 2020 Census equals more money for Davie County programs/needs/opportunities which benefits all residents,” said Terry Bralley, president of Davie County Economic Development. “What a shame to leave 30% of what could be DOLLARS  for Davie to other states and counties. This is our money Davie, make sure we are ALL in. Everyone should respond! We need 100%.”

According to a George Washington University study, North Carolina receives roughly $4,174 per-person, per-year, based on census population data, or $41,740 per person over the next ten years.

Using that math, increasing Davie County’s response to the census by just one percent would lead to almost $1.8 million additional federal dollars a year, or almost $18 million over the next 10 years!

Adequate funding is a desperate need of every municipality in the country,” said Mocksville Town Manager Matt Settlemyer.  “These dollars will support a multitude of programs including economic development, recreation,  hurricane relief, and highway planning and construction for the next decade.”

“Basically, every important allocation that occurs at the federal level is influenced in some way by census data,” he added.

Census data also determines how our state will redraw state legislator and congressional districts in 2021, how many representatives we’ll send to Washington D.C., and how many electoral votes North Carolina will possess in the 2024 and 2028 presidential elections.

…every important allocation that occurs at the federal level is influenced in some way by census data.
