Verizon Wireless is turning on the world’s first large-scale 4G LTE (Fourth Generation, Long Term Evolution) Network in Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point, N.C. on July 21, 2011.  Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network is the fastest and most advanced 4G network in America.  (Editors note:  While7/21 is still the official roll-out date, 4G phones in Mocksville are already using the 4G network… this may be part of testing the network so we will stick with the official Verizon date of 7/21 even though as of this writing we are already seeing 4G network connectivity – edited Monday, 7/18 at 9:30 AM.)

High Speed 4G Coverage Available Throughout Davie County
Verizon Wireless customers across Davie County will be able to whip through the internet at blazing fast speeds, hold reliable multi-party video conferencing sessions, broadcast live HD video from their phones and so much more

The deployment of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE in Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point, N.C. provides LTE coverage throughout the surrounding areas of Cooleemee, Mocksville, Advance, Bermuda Run, and the areas of Calahaln, Clarksville, Farmington, Fulton, Jerusalem, and Shady Grove.

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE technology also will improve coverage strength inside buildings, as it runs on a powerful 700 megahertz wireless frequency.  This should mean greater broadband access within buildings throughout the Davie County School system.

Economic Development Impact
Reliable wireless and traditional broadband internet capacity has become a critical factor in the site selection process that companies go through when deciding where to locate a business.  Next Generation high-speed wireless could improve education through more sophisticated distance learning, give farmers better access to agronomic and market information, extend the reach of high-quality healthcare through telemedicine, and provide local businesses with other competitive advantages.

Competition and Choice ~ Broadband Internet in Davie County, North Carolina
Davie County is very fortunate to have a number of competing options for broadband internet access with offerings from multiple telephone companies and cable carriers.  Verizon 4G coverage added into the local mix of options will only improve the competitive landscape for businesses in Davie County.

4G Coverage Enables Mobile Video Conferencing, Live Mobile Broadcasting in HD
4G LTE provides wireless consumers access to services up to 10 times faster than the company’s industry-leading 3G network. With this latest progression of wireless technology, the company expects average data rates in real-world, loaded network environments to be 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

These speeds are sufficient to enable Mobile HD broadcasting of community events to the Davie County “Live Broadcasting” page from literally any point in Davie Count without the need for a DSL or Cable-based wireless network.

“Verizon Wireless is making the best network even better,” said Jerry Fountain, the president of the Carolinas/Tennessee Region for Verizon Wireless.  “The activation of our lightning fast 4G LTE network in Greensboro, Winston Salem and High Point is further evidence of our commitment to and investment in the residents of this area.”
