veterans coffeeA free Veterans’ Coffee will be held in Mocksville this Thursday, June 2nd from 8:30‐10:30 am at Sagebrush Steakhouse, 1562 Yadkinville Road.  This is a monthly event scheduled for the first Thursday of each month.  Veterans of all ages have the opportunity to meet, share stories, and enjoy informal presentations by community organizations in Davie County.

Similar events are being held across the country to provide Veterans a place to gather and for local health and human service organizations to show their support by offering a casual environment where veterans can meet and learn about services available to them.

These events are sponsored through “We Honor Veterans”, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and Veterans Administration (VA).

“These events are much more than doughnuts and coffee,” said Don Timmons, Regional Community Partnership Coordinator Hospice & Palliative CareCenter and a Vietnam Veteran. “They provide an opportunity for the veterans to connect to each other and to connect with organizations that provide resources, information, and activities for Veterans. People have come to the coffee needing assistance and we have been able to connect them to with resources that can help”

“We are inviting local veterans to enjoy these Coffee events as our way of saying thanks for your service, to provide an opportunity for fellowship and camaraderie,  and also to offer access to local resources that our Veterans may not be aware of,” he added.

Timmons also publishes an email newsletter for Veterans listing discounts, important information, and fun upcoming events such as a free dinner at the Richard Childress Racing Banquet Hall. He is particularly excited about a special event for WWII Veterans and shared the following information:

“On Sunday, August 28, the Hospice & Palliative CareCenter will be hosting the second “Spirit of ‘45” dinner to honor Veterans, both male and female, who served during World War II.  This special event will be held at the Embassy Suites in Concord.  Please help me identify and invite  WWII Veterans. The event will be free for our WWII Veterans and a guest. Individual tickets are $45 each.  Sponsorships are available and needed.  Please help me reach out to any potential sponsors you think may be interested in supporting this event.  The event will feature our favorite performers, LETTERS FROM HOME.  Ask about our Special VICTORY table sponsorship! Sponsor information and registration at:  www.spiritof45-2016.eventbrite.com.  Questions:  336 331-1309”

Please join us in saying “Thank You!” to Sheetz for providing coffee and doughnuts, Sagebrush Steakhouse for providing space and the Hospice and Palliative CareCenter for hosting the events. For more information, or to receive the Veterans events newsletter, please contact Timmons at 336 331-1309 or don.timmons@hospicecarecenter.org
