Disc golf is a popular way to get outside and enjoy casual or competitive play with family and friends. Now, residents in Davie County will not have to travel too far to enjoy their favorite sport, or to properly equip themselves for a day of play.
The Davie Disc Golf Course, located in Farmington, is a professionally designed course for both newcomers and experts alike. The course features 20 unique holes, with a variety of distances and par counts. For newcomers to this pastime, each tee-sign on this course features tips from U.S. Disc Golf Champion, Nate Sexton. Players can hone up on general skills, or gain insight about the hole from these tips. The course is open year-round, from dawn to dusk, and has high ratings from disc golf enthusiasts. The area is well shaded with trees, but players may want to bring some sunscreen, bug spray, and water. While playing is free, a recommended donation of $3 to $5 per person is appreciated and used to maintain the course. The Davie Disc Golf Course is located at 1723 Farmington Road, Mocksville, NC.
The Davie Disc Golf Course opened in December of last year, and with the rapidly increasing popularity of the sport, it was perfect timing. The land for the course was donated by the Smith family in 2007, and it was intended to be used as some form of park for the public to come and enjoy. In 2018, the Farmington Community Center decided that a disc golf course would be a fantastic activity to dedicate the land to. Disc golf is a form of passive recreation, as it does not inhibit or bother nature with the act of clearing land. As well, the recent rapid increase in popularity for the activity made this decision a wise one. Now, ESPN is covering disc golf, and professional players are gaining more traction in the world of pro sports leagues. The Davie Disc Golf course will be holding tournaments on August 22, and September 26, and more information can be found on their page here.
