Mocksville has welcomed a dynamic new leader, Jeannette Pitts, as its Director of Marketing and Community Development. Arriving at one of the busiest times of the year, she’s already dived into managing Downtown Mocksville’s vibrant summer events, including concerts, movies in the park, the farmer’s market, and planning for the holiday season. On top of that, Pitts is also adjusting to her new role, getting to know the community and immersing herself in the town’s culture. Yet, with her boundless energy and excitement, she has taken it all in stride.
Energized by Mocksville’s Momentum
Brimming with enthusiasm, Pitts has quickly found herself at home in Mocksville. Early mornings and late nights have been a staple of her schedule as she familiarizes herself with the town. “I’ve enjoyed meeting the merchants, and I’ve definitely done some shopping. I also thoroughly enjoyed dancing with residents at the Moxie concert,” she adds with a smile. “I absolutely love what I’ve seen so far. Everyone I’ve met has been so welcoming. They are rightly proud of their town and want to share it.”
Born in New York but spending summers on her grandfather’s farm in Puerto Rico, Pitts has a deep understanding of rural living. She is bilingual and spent several years of her childhood living in Puerto Rico before moving to North Carolina in 1992 to pursue a career in the medical field. Today, she proudly calls herself a North Carolinian.
From Health Care to Community Leadership
Pitts brings 30 years of experience from the medical field, where most recently, she managed a multi-modal pediatric practice for Moses Cone. Her background in strategic planning, budgeting, capital project management, and grant writing has equipped her with invaluable skills for her new role. But beyond the technical expertise, Pitts thrives on relationship-building, a key component in her vision for Mocksville’s growth.
“I’m a people person,” Pitts says, emphasizing her love for connecting with businesses, organizations, and individuals. She isn’t one to shy away from a challenge, as proven when she managed the Moses Cone COVID-19 vaccine clinic, which served 3,000 patients daily. Now, she’s excited to blend her corporate skills with her passion for community engagement to enhance Mocksville’s downtown experience.
Bridging Gaps and Building Connections
“I love working with the community and being out there serving others. I also enjoy interacting one-on-one with people and hearing about their experiences, what motivates them, and what makes them happy,” Pitts explains. Her goal for the coming months is to listen and learn, focusing on what merchants, residents, and community leaders need to elevate downtown Mocksville to the next level. “I am here to help bridge the gaps between ideas, people, and organizations.”
A Personal Connection to Community
Outside of work, Pitts is a devoted mother and grandmother. With five grown daughters, two teenage stepdaughters, five granddaughters, and a great-grandson, family is at the heart of her life. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, dancing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and three dogs.
Pitts wants Mocksville’s citizens to know that her door is always open for concerns, ideas, or suggestions. She is eager to continue building relationships and growing Mocksville’s thriving community.
