Davie County Schools Successfully Launches Remote Learning Platform
Davie County Schools has been diligently preparing for an efficient and effective remote learning rollout. The planning process has been thoughtful and calculated, with the goal to keep students active and engaged. Knowing these are challenging times, Davie County Schools made a conscious effort to make sure they are sensitive to the stressors that already exist in our homes. Teachers will provide grace during this time, as students become acclimated to the new learning environment. That being said, Davie County Schools is excited about the new opportunities this remote learning platform provides.
Check Your Teacher’s Website
Students and parents have been asked to check Teacher Websites, which will provide static updates, resources, contact information, office hours and availability. Teacher websites will also be used to communicate where to find student learning content. Students have also been asked to check their school email accounts daily for messages from their teacher(s). All K-12 students now have access to their email accounts. These accounts are only able to send and receive emails through the Davie County Schools email system.
Students Will Collaborate and Communicate Remotely
Technology is an integral part of how Davie County Schools will continue to provide remote teaching and learning for all students. Students will be able to collaborate on school projects, communicate with their teachers and one another, and continue learning regardless of their location. Students’ learning content, activities, and assignments will be shared on an online platform, which may include video conferencing. This was an important piece to share with parents, as their children will begin using these conferencing capabilities from their homes soon.
“We encourage students and families to develop a routine, helping to structure the remote learning process,” said Jennifer Lynde, Chief Academic Officer. “Everyone, even teachers, will be adjusting to something new. We will remain flexible and understanding as everyone adapts to this unique situation. We will provide patience with students and appreciate the patience of parents. We will certainly miss face-to-face interaction with children, but we are optimistic about the possibilities.”
A DCS Team Update
So much has been done in the past couple weeks, since COVID-19 became more prevalent and then schools closed for students. The Davie County School Nutrition Team has provided over 23,000 meals, going above and beyond to make sure all in need are reached. Delivery to the homeless and quarantined are part of this effort, practicing the utmost safety and social distancing. Aside from meals provided, the DCS team has worked hard to distribute needed technology, boost professional development, transition all K-12 curriculum to remote learning, deep clean buses and schools, reduce onsite staff with a teleworking agreement, and practice social distancing in every interaction. These efforts and all the planning, communication, and teamwork that goes along with them, have kept the entire DCS Team busy.
“I am so proud of our staff for their hard work and dedication to our students and community,” said Superintendent Jeff Wallace. “Every decision we have made has been about our children. All the efforts have been for them and their wellbeing, continued development, and engagement. Our staff is committed to our students and should be commended. Their great attitudes have been a tremendous example for our students as well. Plus, joining efforts with local officials, churches, foundations and businesses has been a blessing. We are so thankful.”

Davie County Schools has added a Remote Learning Resources page to the district website, helping parents and students adjust and be successful in this new remote learning platform.
