A St. Patrick’s Weekend Tradition Takes to the Streets
Runners, walkers, and anyone looking for a little St. Patrick’s Day fun are invited to downtown Mocksville for the 35th Annual Shamrock Run 5K on Saturday, March 14, at 8:15 a.m. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Mocksville, this longtime community favorite brings together fitness, festive spirit, and local philanthropy for a memorable morning in the heart of Davie County.
Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite green gear, gather friends and family, and enjoy a scenic run or walk through town. Whether you’re racing for a personal best or simply enjoying the fresh air and community atmosphere, the Shamrock Run welcomes participants of all ages and fitness levels.
A Scenic Route Through the Heart of Mocksville
The race will begin and end at O’Callahan’s Publick House (115 N. Main Street) in downtown Mocksville. The course winds through familiar local landmarks, including Rich Park, Mocksville Elementary School, and the Davie Family YMCA, before looping back downtown to the finish line.
The route highlights some of the community’s most recognizable spots while offering a welcoming and energetic race environment for both seasoned runners and casual walkers.

Running for a Cause
While the Shamrock Run is known for its festive atmosphere, its true mission is to support local organizations. Part of the proceeds from this year’s race will benefit Family Promise of Davie County and IMPACT of the Piedmont, helping provide critical services and support to individuals and families throughout the region.
A Community Event with Deep Roots
The Shamrock Run began in 1988, originally organized by St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church as a fundraiser. Over the years, the event has raised thousands of dollars for local nonprofits and community initiatives, including organizations such as A Storehouse for Jesus, Special Olympics, Family Promise of Davie County, Habitat for Humanity, The Dragonfly House, the Davie Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, Davie County Pregnancy Care Center, Hospice & Palliative Care of Davie County, the Davie Family YMCA, and Cognition Davie.
After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the tradition was revived when the Rotary Club of Mocksville assumed hosting duties in 2024, ensuring the beloved race continues to serve the community.
“We’re excited to keep this race going and continue supporting local causes,” said event organizer Will Marklin.
Celebrate After the Finish Line
Because the race falls during St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the event’s premier sponsor, O’Callahans’ Publick House, will open early on race morning. Runners and spectators can stick around after the race for Irish-inspired food, drinks, and a festive downtown celebration.
