Christmas is quickly approaching, and the 2018 Davie County Commemorative Christmas ornament would make a perfect addition to your tree as well as become a treasured gift for your Davie County family and friends.

This year’s ornament returns to the original glass ball design and features the Kurfees Pure Oil Company, now Sadie’s Shoppe, which is located at 185 N. Salisbury St.

This Davie County landmark has served in many capacities since Dr. R.P. Anderson built it as a service station, one of the oldest in Mocksville, in 1920. He sold it to Pure Oil Company in 1931. Albert Boger became a partner in the station with Grady Ward in 1946, operating as B & W Service. Sam Howard later bought Ward’s share of the business and the station operated as Boger & Howard. The station became Boger Pure Service in 1954. Albert Denton Boger purchased the property from the Pure Oil Company in 1965 and the Boger brothers expanded the business into a fuel oil distribution company. The building functioned as a gas station until the late 1990s.

Since then, the building has housed a series of galleries and shops including the Woodworks Gallery, The Station on Main Street, Scarlett’s Unique Boutique, and now Sadie’s Shoppe.

Ornaments may be purchased for $8.00 at Bank of the Ozarks, BB&T, Foster Drug Company, Daniel Furniture, Downtown Merchants, Mocksville Town Hall, and the Davie County Chamber of Commerce. Checks are accepted and should be made out to Town of Mocksville.

Kurfees Pure Oil Company is the 28th in a series of annual ornaments commemorating a landmark, a tradition, or a memory of Davie County. The series began in 1991 with a glass ball ornament depicting the Davie County Courthouse. Local artists created each of the designs and also sold prints. The 2012 Celebration of Trees ornament marked the transition from glass to pewter.
