The Davie County Board of Commissioners met on November 18, 2020, and named David Bone as the new county manager. Bone currently serves as county manager in Martin County, NC (population of 22,671), a position he has held since 2011. Bone has served a total of 18 years as a local government manager, having also served as the town manager in Wendell, Elizabethtown, and Chadbourn, NC.
The County conducted an extensive search with the assistance of Developmental Associates to recruit and intensively screen applicants based on attributes desired by the county commissioners. Ultimately, the board of commissioners interviewed several finalists and unanimously chose Bone as county manager.
Terry Renegar, chairman of the Davie County Commissioners stated, “We are excited to have David Bone as the Davie County Manager. David’s unique experience will enable him to lead Davie County into the future while respecting our rural heritage.”

Bone has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University in Durham. He is also a graduate of the UNC-CH School of Government’s Municipal Administration Course and its Public Executive Leadership Academy, as well as the NC Rural Center’s Rural Economic Development Institute. Bone earned the Credentialed Manager Certification from the International City/County Managers Association in 2008.
Bone has served on the NC-911 Board since 2015 and has served as chairman of the Martin County Regional Water and Sewer Authority since 2012. Mr. Bone is active in his community in several organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, Rotary Club, and Ruritan Club. Bone and his wife, Amy, have three sons.
David Bone will begin work as the Davie County Manager on December 21, 2020.
