Residents Invited to Join Tree Planting Ceremony at Rich Park

The Town of Mocksville will celebrate an impressive milestone this spring—33 consecutive years as a Tree City USA community—with a special Arbor Day event open to the public.

Residents are invited to gather on Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at Rich Park Shelter 1 (202 Park Drive) for a meaningful morning focused on trees, community, and environmental stewardship.

A Tradition Rooted in Community

The celebration will include a ceremonial tree-planting led by students from Mocksville Elementary School, highlighting the importance of passing on environmental values to the next generation.

Mayor Will Marklin will deliver the official Arbor Day proclamation, recognizing the town’s ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing its tree canopy. The event will also feature a special presentation from Ranger James Bentley of the North Carolina Forest Service, who will officially award Mocksville its 2025 Tree City USA designation.

Recognizing the Value of Trees

Arbor Day serves as a reminder of the many ways trees enhance daily life—from improving air quality and providing shade to strengthening the beauty and identity of our communities. Mocksville’s continued recognition reflects years of thoughtful planning, maintenance, and investment in its green spaces.

Tree City USA, a national program promoting responsible urban forestry, requires participating communities to meet specific standards each year, including maintaining a tree board, investing in tree care, and celebrating Arbor Day.

Appreciation for Those Who Make It Possible

Mocksville’s success as a Tree City USA community is built on the dedication of local staff and volunteers who work year-round to care for the town’s trees.

“Thirty-three years as a Tree City USA is an accomplishment our community is proud of,” said Human Resources Director and Town Clerk Emily Quance. “We’re especially grateful for the efforts of our Parks and Grounds team, led by Chris Vaughn, along with our Tree Board members—Judith Hinkley, Carl Lambert, Judy Rosser, and Alex Thompson—who continue to care for and protect one of our town’s most valuable assets.”

Join the Celebration

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and be part of this annual tradition. Whether you’re passionate about the environment or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, Arbor Day in Mocksville offers a chance to connect, learn, and give back.
