Music from the Porch
The Stan Bobbitt Band returns to Davie County on Saturday, June 2 to kick off the “Music from the Porch” summer concert series. The large front porch of Cooleemee’s Zachary House will be transformed into a concert stage overlooking the audience spread across the lovely green grounds on lawn chairs and blankets. This is only the first of the summer concert series which will continue on the first Saturdays in July and August.
Family Concert Series ~ Kids Get in Free
Admission for adults is only $5 at the gate and children 12 & under are admitted free of charge. The summer concert series will present concerts on the first Saturdays of June, July and August. “These are family concerts,” says Tony Steele, president of the Cooleemee Historical Association that is producing these benefit concerts. Plans include gospel music in July and beach music in August.
Cook Shack Opens 5 PM, Music Begins 6:30 PM
Cooleemee’s Old Cook Shack will open at 5 pm with hot dogs, cold drinks, ice cream and other treats. Music will begin at 6:30 pm.
Originally from Southwest Virginia, Stan Bobbitt began playing music after he went blind as a young person. The band plays many venues in the Yadkin Valley but Stan says Cooleemee has made its way into his heart. “I just love to play there,” says Bobbitt. The band plays all kinds of music, mostly country but gospel, Southern Rock ‘n Roll and more.
Proceeds to Benefit Heritage Museums and Kids Programs
Come on out and enjoy the evening for a good time and for a good cause. After expenses, proceeds will go to keep Cooleemee’s heritage museums open and its “Discovering Our Heritage” kids programs operating.
