Mocksville Addresses Housing Shortage

North Carolina has a housing shortage.  Since February of 2020, the number of available homes in North Carolina has dropped by more than 50%, and the prices have increased by 6.5 – 7.9 percent, economic strategist Ted Abernethy, Economic Leadership LLC,  shared during his State of Davie address in April.  Davie County is no exception. The Davie County Chamber of Commerce and Davie County Economic Development Commission presented the State of Davie & 51st Annual Chamber Meeting on Thursday, April 15th at WinMock in Bermuda Run.  The meeting was a sold-out event based on COVID-related limits, with 150 community and business leaders in attendance to hear an overview of Davie County’s economy and to honor the recipients of the Chamber’s signature awards:  E.C. Yadtel Receives $1.9 Grant to Expand Broadband In Davie County

Yadkin Valley Telephone Membership Corp. has received a $1.9 million CARES Act Recovery Assistance Grant from the U.S Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration to expand broadband access in Davie County.  Matched with $485,729 in local investment, Yadtel will use the funds to construct 111.5 miles of fiber optic cable in six areas of Davie County that lack access to high-speed internet. Davie County Receives Funding Award for Water Treatment Services in Cooleemee and Mocksville

On Tuesday, February 23, Davie County was notified that it had been selected to receive more than $21 million in funding to expand its Cooleemee Water Treatment Plant, which will replace Mocksville’s Hugh A. Lagle Water Treatment Plant and promote regional cooperation in public services.  The funds for this project were approved at the State Water Infrastructure Authority’s meeting on February 10. Mocksville’s Mural Attracts Positive Attention

Mocksville’s downtown mural is accomplishing what it was commissioned to do — attract attention to downtown Mocksville. “The Running of the Horses” became an official Pokestop in the “Pokémon GO” mobile game in December.
