Smart Start Thanks Community for Help Meeting Mebane Foundation Challenge Grant

Drumroll please! Smart Start of Davie County is proud to announce that the $10,000 Mebane Foundation Challenge Grant has not only been met but exceeded! Grand Opening of a New Home Store

“She’s got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty. She’s got whozits and whatzits galore… “ Stephanie Shoffner has opened a home decor, furniture, and gift store in Historic Downtown Mocksville that is fit for a princess.  Lydia Jaynes, located at 43 Court Square, celebrated its grand opening Thursday, April 8,  with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Davie County Chamber of Commerce.  The community was invited to browse the store while enjoying refreshments from Ketchie Creek and Restaurant 101. FEMA Begins Financial Assistance Program for COVID-19-Related Funeral Expenses

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought overwhelming grief to many families. FEMA hopes to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the virus by providing financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.  This program is funded through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Further Easing of Restrictions on Businesses and Gatherings Effective Friday – Vaccination Rates Play Key Role

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24th, some places in North Carolina will be able to open at 100% capacity, including museums, aquariums, retail businesses, and salons. During a COVID update on Tuesday, Gov. Roy Cooper also announced that restaurants, breweries, wineries, amusement parks, gyms, and other recreation establishments will be able to have up to 75% capacity indoors and 100% outdoors. Additionally, as part of Executive Order 204, bars, conference centers, sports and entertainment arenas, and reception venues will be allowed to increase capacity up to 50% indoors and outdoors. The Park at Lake Louise Celebrates Grand Opening With Ribbon Cutting

Davie County Schools Implement Heggerty to Support Phonemic Awareness

“Deep,” says Susan Shepherd to her first-graders. “Deep,” they repeat.  “Replace the /p/ with /l/,” she says. “Deal,” shouts her students.  Shepherd is guiding her students through their daily Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lesson. Phonemic awareness is the ability to understand that spoken words are made up of individual sounds called phonemes, and it’s one of the best early predictors for reading success.
