Looking for a job? Area businesses are looking for you! Find your new career during the job fair this Thursday, July 20th, from 2-6 p.m. at the Davie County Senior Center. The event is open for veterans only from 2-3 p.m. and then to the public from 3-6 pm. 2017 American Legion Junior State Tournament Begins Friday in Mocksville!

Remember the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, and the smell of fresh popcorn? Relive those good times as the 2017 North Carolina Junior American Legion Baseball State Championship Tournament kicks off in Mocksville on Friday, July 14th.  The tournament will be held at Rich Park’s Mando Field from July 14th– 18th .    A game pass is only $6 per day with multiple games played daily. Free Event ~ Lawn Mower Parade, Free Ice Cream and Watermelon and Free Water Slide – Tuesday, July 4th in Cooleemee!

Since the 1990s, Cooleemee has honored Independence Day with a lawn mower parade that begins at Cooleemee School. Anyone can participate by lining up a patriotically decorated lawn mower, float, car, bicycle or pet by 9:30 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Bring your lawn chair and view the parade along Marginal Street. Moving the Needle on Early Childhood Literacy – Introducing “DavieLEADS” – Literacy Empowers Everyone in Davie to Succeed!

The desks have been emptied, books packed up, and goodbyes said; but Davie County’s pre-K and elementary school teachers are already looking ahead to an inspiring new literacy program beginning next year, thanks to the Mebane Foundation. The Mebane Charitable Foundation announced in April a grant of almost $2.5 million to Davie County Schools to support DavieLEADS (Literacy Empowers All in Davie to Succeed), a five-year early literacy initiative to improve kindergarten readiness and to increase the percentage of students reading proficiently by the end of third grade.
