23rd Annual Shamrock Run, Walk and Tots Trot to Benefit Hospice and Palliative Care of Davie County

The 23rd annual Shamrock Run, Walk and Tots Trot, sponsored by St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Davie County YMCA and the Davie County Chamber of Commerce, will be held on March 5, 2011.  A portion of the proceeds from this annual event will be donated to Hospice and Palliative Care of Davie County.  If you have ever been through a hospice experience in Davie County, you can appreciate the heroic work being done to provide care and emotional, social and spiritual support for Davie County patients and their families in end-of-life scenarios. Avgol Expansion Bringing 42 New Jobs to Mocksville!

Governor Perdue announced yesterday that Avgol, a leading manufacturer of ultra lightweight nonwoven fabrics, will expand its facility in Davie County. The company plans to create 42 jobs and invest $35 million during the next three years in Mocksville. The project was made possible in part by an $84,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. “North Carolina is a world-leader in the nonwoven fabrics industry and these jobs are a win for North Carolina textile workers and Davie County,” said Gov. The Davie County Health Department is conducting a Community Health/Needs Assessment survey for all Davie County residents age 18 and over.  The purpose of the Community Health/Needs Assessment is to provide an understanding of the current health status and needs of Davie County along with community strengths, assets, and potential resources to address those needs.  The goal is to provide a compilation of health data and information with which appropriate planning may take place to improve the overall health of the community.  The health department is required to complete the assessment every 4 years.
