Congratulations Mocksville-Davie 1st Place ~ Playoffs Begin Tonight!

2012 Southern Division Area III Regular Season Champions! Celebrate Independence Day all Week in Davie County

Davie County will host fireworks, farmer’s markets, musical entertainment, parades, classic cars, antique tractors and more as we head into the traditional 4th of July summer holiday season. Local National Guard Unit Headed to Kuwait

A deployment ceremony is planned for 2 p.m. today in Mocksville for the North Carolina National Guard’s 882nd Engineer Company, which is composed of detachments in three armories located in Mount Airy, Taylorsville and Mocksville. In all, more than 160 soldiers are being deployed from the three detachments, whose families also will attend today’s ceremony. It had been confirmed in early May that the local detachment would be sent overseas at some point during the summer, but the actual deployment date and location of its mission was not disclosed. Classic Cars “Cruise-In” Monday Night in Mocksville

Visit the beautiful square in historic downtown Mocksville this evening for a classic car “Cruise-In” presented by the Piedmont Classic C.A.R.S. Club. The cruise-in draws participants from the surrounding areas stretching from the Virginia border to the Sandhills. If the weather is good, the cruise-in will draw as many as 250 cars. Free Summer Concert This Saturday – “The Legends”

Presented by Historic Downtown Mocksville The 2012 summer concert series in historic downtown Mocksville begins this Saturday, June 16th with rock and roll from the 80’s presented by “The Legends.” This free summer concert runs from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy live music under the mighty oaks on the Mocksville town square near 101 North Main Street. Breathing New Life into the Historic 600,000 square-foot Mill in Cooleemee

Hard work, big dreams and innovative thinking have begun to breathe new life into the 600,000 square-foot cotton mill which has been standing idle in Cooleemee since 1969.  The Cooleemee mill was once the most powerful economic engine in Davie County, North Carolina.  After opening in 1901, the mill employed almost 2,000 people at its peak until it was closed in 1969.
